nationalpostsports:

The new Paul the Octopus: Paul the amazing clairvoyant octopus may be dead but now he has a worthy heir, a Polish-based Indian elephant named Citta.

Weymouth-born but German-based Paul went down a storm during the last European Championships and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa with his remarkable ability to predict the winners of various matches, mostly involving Germany.

According to zookeeper Jerzy Pirog, Citta correctly predicted the outcome of the Champions League final last month and has now been put to the test to predict the results of Poland’s group matches. The co-hosts open their Group A campaign against Greece on Friday and according to Citta, they can expect to win.

theweekmagazine:

Walt Disney will no longer carry ads for foods that don’t meet strict requirements for sodium, sugar, and saturated fat content during its children’s programming. The company is the owner of ABC, ABC Family, the Disney Channel, and other TV outlets.

Disney Chairman Robert Iger said the move was part of an effort to combat childhood obesity. First Lady Michelle Obama, appearing with Iger, threw the White House’s support behind the deal, saying it was “truly a game changer for the health of our children.” However, while it’s assumed Disney will lose advertising dollars, Iger insisted that the initiative was also “smart business.”

Will curbing junk-food ads help Disney’s bottom line?

Yikes! Scientists recently found that it only takes three or four hours for fat from a meal to turn into belly flab

An average person can add the equivalent of up to three teaspoons of fat to the waist mere hours after eating.

“We found that, after eating a meal, the first fat from it enters the blood about an hour later,” said Fredrik Karpe, Oxford University’s professor of metabolic medicine.

That bear that famously fell from a tree?  He died.  :-(

Via MSNBC:

Authorities say a bear made famous by a photo that captured the animal falling from a tree at the University of Colorado has been hit and killed by two cars.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials say the black bear was struck on U.S. 36 around dawn Thursday by one car and then another.

Parks spokeswoman Jennifer Churchill told msnbc.com that officials identified the bear as the same one whose photograph went viral by checking an ear tag that was placed on him after last week’s tree incident.
