Worst Luck Ever of the Day: A man in the small Spanish village of Sodeto is giving “bad luck” a whole new meaning after each of the community’s 70 households won the Spanish Christmas Lottery jackpot except for him.

It seems Costis Mitsotakis was accidentally passed over by the homemakers’ association, which every year knocks on doors in Sodeto collecting money for a collective lottery buy-in.

Wouldn’t you know it, this year was the town’s year, and each resident took home a fat slice of the “El Gordo” pie — some $950 million dollars in all.

Believe it or not, Mr. Mitsotakis isn’t too upset about the whole being-the-only-one-in-town-without-at-least-$130,000-in-his-pocket thing.

The Greek filmmaker is hoping the extra money his neighbors made will help him make some of his own bank selling a strip of land he’d previously had a hard time unloading.

After the lottery, two residents immediately expressed interest in the plot. Refusing to take advantage of the situation, Mitsotakis wouldn’t allow a bidding war. “This is a small village,” he is quoted as saying. “You don’t want bad feelings.”
